David Beckham said he is "honored" to have the chance of joining AC Milan on loan, and that he remains committed to the Los Angeles Galaxy team beyond his temporary spell in Italian soccer.

"At the end of the day, my commitment is still to the Galaxy and that's not changed," Beckham said.

Beckham told his Web site he's making the move because the MLS season is shorter than the former England captain is used to in Europe. Playing and training with Milan will help the 33-year-old keep his spot on Fabio Capello's English national squad.

"I've a great chance to go there, keep fit and play with some of the best players in the world," Beckham said. "It doesn't mean I'm leaving the States. I'm still very committed to being a Galaxy player."

AC Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani said three days ago that the Italian club wants to sign Beckham on loan in January "for some months" and that it was in discussions with his agent. The 2009 MLS campaign starts in late March.

Beckham, soccer's highest-paid player, is 15 months into a five-year contract with the Galaxy. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has a salary of $5.5 million that could boom to as much as $250 million over five years with endorsements and profit sharing, according to the Galaxy.

Beckham will be featured alongside Kaka, the world player of the year, Ronaldinho and Paolo Maldini if he joins Milan.

· WIZARDS 3, REVOLUTION 1: Claudio López scored on a penalty kick in the 28th minute to help visiting Kansas City end a 13-match winless streak on the road and defeat a struggling New England.

Two Revolution players were issued red cards and ejected from the match, including defender Gabriel Badilla in the 26th minute and midfielder Khano Smith in the 42nd minute. Both players are now ineligible for the New England's first MLS playoff game against Chicago in Foxborough, Mass., on Thursday.

· EARTHQUAKES 2, TORONTO FC 0: Ryan Cochrane and Shea Salinas scored second-half goals as San Jose concluded its first MLS season with a victory over Toronto FC.

· CHIVAS USA 1, DYNAMO 1: Jim Curtin scored in the 90th minute to lift Chivas USA to a tie with Houston in Carson, Calif.
