The losses continue to mount for Phillip Fulmer and Tennessee, which fell to Alabama, 29-9, in Knoxville on Saturday night. The Volunteers managed just 10 first downs (Alabama compiled 23) and 173 yards of total offense (the Crimson Tide rolled up 366).
The win marked the first time Alabama has defeated Tennessee in consecutive seasons since 1991-92. Fulmer once won seven straight games against the Crimson Tide, but his grasp on this rivalry -- much like his grasp on his job status -- has grown tenuous.
"I'll be back up tomorrow; I'm not down," Fulmer told reporters after the loss. "I just got a lot on my mind right now."
Missouri was able to blow off some of the frustration it had been building over the past two weeks with a 58-0 win over Colorado. After consecutive losses to Oklahoma State and Texas, the Tigers had tumbled from the national title picture and were more than willing to take out their anger on a mediocre Colorado squad.
"Those two weeks," Missouri defensive tackle Jaron Baston said, "felt like two years."
Chase Daniel completed his first 14 passes and threw for 302 yards and five touchdowns to lead Missouri.
Southern California relied on its defense to pull out a 17-10 victory over Arizona. USC's win kept alive its BCS title hopes.
