Two people were killed in a Frederick County house fire this morning, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at the heavily burning home, in the 12800 block of Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, at about 3:30 a.m., said Michael P. Dmuchowski, a spokesman for the county's fire and rescue service.

The bodies of two people, who appear to be adults, were discovered inside, Dmuchowski said. Investigators are probing how the fire started and how the victims died. The investigation is being handled by county and state fire officials, and the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, Dmuchowski said.
