Cowboys TE Jason Witten still hasn't been ruled out of playing with a broken rib against the Giants, even after missing practice again yesterday.
Witten hasn't practiced this week, but the team listed him as questionable for tomorrow's game. The four-time Pro Bowler, hurt in last week's victory over Tampa Bay, said he hopes to play.
Coach Wade Phillips said Witten could play against the Giants without practicing.
"He does everything right in practice, that's why he doesn't need to practice as much," Phillips said.
Phillips also said Tony Romo, who will miss his third consecutive game because of the broken pinkie on his throwing hand, may resume throwing next week. The Pro Bowl quarterback is hoping to be back for the Cowboys' next game, Nov. 16 at Washington following the bye after the Giants game.
· RAVENS: Starting CBs Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle will miss tomorrow's game against Cleveland because of injuries.
McAlister has been dealing with a problematic right knee and got a second medical opinion this week. There is no definitive word whether the former Pro Bowl defensive back will continue to play this season or if he'll undergo season-ending surgery.
Rolle has missed the past five games because of a neck ailment that required surgery. Although Rolle practiced this week, he wore a red jersey that signifies he's off-limits to contact.
· SEAHAWKS: Pro Bowl DE Patrick Kerney is out indefinitely and getting a second look at what's wrong with his surgically repaired shoulder. It's the latest in an epidemic of injuries for teetering Seattle.
Coach Mike Holmgren said yesterday morning on his radio show that Kerney is going back to Alabama to see orthopedic specialist James Andrews. Andrews is the surgeon who repaired torn labrum cartilage in Kerney's left shoulder after last season. The Seahawks' top pass rusher re-injured the shoulder in last weekend's win at San Francisco. . . .
Assistant coach Jim Mora said he's not interested in the University of Washington coaching position.
Mora is a former Washington player who began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant under Don James in 1984. He has already signed a contract to succeed Holmgren as Seahawks coach beginning in 2009. The deal is believed to be worth almost $5 million annually.
Washington (0-7), one of two winless teams in major college football, fired Coach Tyrone Willingham on Monday effective at the end of this season for being 11-32 in three-plus seasons.
· PACKERS: QB Aaron Rodgers signed a contract extension through 2014. The team announced the deal after practice yesterday, when the first-year starter signed the paperwork.
"It means a lot," he said. "I'm very excited knowing that my future is going to be here in Green Bay."
A former standout at California, Rodgers was the Packers' first-round pick in 2005. He then spent three years as the backup to Brett Favre.
· BILLS: Buffalo will be without three starters when they host the Jets tomorrow.
WR Josh Reed, DE Aaron Schobel and G Brad Butler are all out with injuries (5-2).
Reed hurt his right ankle and Achilles' tendon in the loss at Miami this past weekend. He is second on the team with 26 catches and 288 yards. Roscoe Parrish and rookie James Hardy probably will share duties replacing Reed.
Butler sprained his left knee in the first half of Buffalo's win over San Diego two weeks ago. Schobel injured a ligament and bone in his left foot against Arizona on Oct. 5.
