Knicks PG Stephon Marbury was placed on the inactive list before last night's game in Philadelphia against the 76ers.

This Story

Marbury, a former all-star reportedly scheduled to earn $21.9 million this season, did not play in the Knicks' 120-115 season-opening win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday.

Knicks Coach Mike D'Antoni and Marbury met and Marbury asked the coach if he was going to play. When told he would not be seeing action, Marbury reportedly requested he be put on the inactive list and D'Antoni and the guard mutually agreed to take that action for yesterday's game.

Marbury, dressed in street clothes, watched from the Knicks bench after not warming up prior to the game.

ยท THE DOTTED LINE: Signed F Jason Maxiell to a contract extension.

The team did not announce terms of the contract. But a basketball official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been signed, told the Associated Press that the four-year contract extension is worth $20 million. . . .

Boston exercised the fourth-year option on PG Rajon Rondo.

He averaged 10.6 points and 5.1 assists last season, when the Celtics' won their 17th NBA Championship. The former Kentucky Wildcat is entering his third season in the NBA. . . .

The Pacers have signed F Danny Granger to a contract extension. The 6-foot-9 Granger has averaged 13.7 points per game in his three seasons. . . .

Injured F Martell Webster and the Trail Blazers agreed to a four-year contract extension.

The deal is worth $20 million, a person close to the negotiations told the AP.
