For Georgetown Visitation junior Megan O'Conor, coming back with a vengeance had a couple of meanings yesterday afternoon during the Independent School League girls' soccer final at Episcopal High School.
O'Conor nearly doubled her regular-season offensive output with a hat trick against Potomac School, leading the Cubs (15-1) to a 3-0 victory over the only squad they'd lost to this year.
O'Conor missed two weeks when she broke a small bone in her right foot, but she was determined to be back for the ISL tournament.
Her presence took on even greater significance when the team learned that their best player, four-year starter Allison Stone, would miss the tournament because of an ankle injury.
"It says a lot about the team as a whole that they were able to keep moving," said ninth-year Visitation Coach Zeff Yusof. "They've just shown an incredible ability to focus on the task at hand."
The team also had to spring back from a setback early in the game, losing defender Meghan Farrel to a serious ankle injury in the 15th minute.
Visitation took an early lead when O'Conor scored an unassisted goal in the third minute. She added goals in the 48th and 51st minutes.
Potomac fell to 11-2-3.
