MEMPHIS, Nov. 5 -- A federal grand jury in Memphis has indicted two white supremacists accused of plotting to kill Barack Obama and dozens of other black people.

Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, were arrested last month, before the Democratic senator won the presidential election. They are being held without bond.

They were indicted Wednesday on charges of possessing a sawed-off shotgun, planning to rob a licensed gun dealer and threatening a presidential candidate.

Authorities say they plotted a killing spree that would end with them attacking Obama. Court records indicate their plot fell apart quickly.

Cowart's attorney said he had no comment. A message left for Schlesselman's attorney was not immediately returned.
