A Pick to Remember
Madison senior free safety Taylor Meade's 106-yard interception return down the visiting sideline in a 28-7 home win over Yorktown in the Virginia AAA Northern Region Division 5 quarterfinals has understandably been a big hit in the Warhawks' film sessions. "That's one of those plays you're sitting with your grandkids and talking about," Madison Coach Gordon Leib said. "He just made a memory that's going to last a lifetime. He's just going to need the technology to keep proving that it happened, from DVD to whatever's coming up next."
Two weeks earlier, against McLean, Meade picked off a pass in the end zone only to get forced out of bounds just one yard beyond the goal line. "That time," Leib said, "I told him he should have taken a knee in the end zone."

Eagles Fly Again
Osbourn quarterback Jerell McFadden spent the past two weeks making sure the Eagles were bound for the playoffs after a one-year hiatus. On Oct. 31 against Stonewall Jackson, the junior rushed for 213 yards and four touchdowns -- in the second half alone -- during a 48-21 victory. Then on Friday, McFadden ran for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Osbourn to a 28-21 victory over rival Osbourn Park, clinching the final Virginia AAA Northwest Region Division 6 playoff berth. Osbourn missed the postseason last year after winning the Virginia AAA Division 6 championship in 2006.

Here and There
Potomac Falls entered Friday's regular season finale at rival Dominion looking to lock up home-field advantage for its Virginia AA Region II Division 4 first-round playoff game. After a 48-10 rout, the Panthers did just that, but also found themselves playing at home much sooner than expected.
