Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's advocacy of health care for all Americans is admirable ["Health Care Can't Wait," op-ed, Nov. 9], but President-elect Barack Obama's plan involves for-profit insurance companies. This approach won't work.

I want a single-payer national health plan that provides private care (so we can choose our doctors) but is financed through the government (so we have oversight and economies of scale).

Such a system has been proposed in the House by Rep. John Conyers Jr. and more than 90 co-sponsors. As an American and a small-business owner, I say it is time to take the profit out of health care. Everybody in, nobody out.
