In the midst of the good feelings that persist after Sen. Barack Obama's election as president, it was unfortunate to read Archbishop Desmond Tutu's unwarranted barrage against the international policies of the United States ["The Man of Tomorrow," Outlook, Nov. 9]. Despite his bitterness, even the archbishop had to acknowledge the effectiveness of several international programs, including the attacks on malaria and HIV/AIDS, carried out by the Bush administration.

Perhaps Archbishop Tutu should focus on his own back yard, concentrating his enmity and outrage on the current government of South Africa, which is the major supporter of the dictatorial government of Robert Mugabe in neighboring Zimbabwe.
