American vs. St. Francis (Pa.)

Where: Bender Arena. When: 7:30 p.m. Radio: WFED (1500 AM), WWWB (820 AM). Records: Eagles 0-1, Red Flash 0-1.

Outlook: Before their home opener, the Eagles will celebrate last season's Patriot League title and first trip to the NCAA tournament by raising a championship banner. They began the season Friday with an 83-54 loss at No. 12 Oklahoma as the back-court duo of Derrick Mercer and Garrison Carr shot 6 for 25. Senior F Brian Gilmore scored 16 points. St. Francis, picked to finish last in the Northeast Conference, had just as much trouble, losing at Texas Tech, 71-47. Junior G-F Devin Sweetney, a Riverdale Baptist graduate and cousin of former Georgetown star Michael Sweetney, had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Where: Patriot Center. When: 7 p.m. Records: Patriots 1-0, Bears 0-1.

Outlook: T he Patriots will begin the evening with a banner-raising ceremony, honoring the 2007-08 squad, which won the Colonial Athletic Association championship and went to the NCAA tournament. A new mascot, replacing Gunston, also will be unveiled. In Mason's opener Saturday, an 80-79 overtime victory over Vermont, freshmen Ryan Pearson and Andre Cornelius came off the bench to combine for 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Brown, which won 19 games last season and is picked to finish fifth in the Ivy League, lost a 76-74 decision at Rhode Island on Friday. Junior C Matt Mullery had 22 points.
