Stephen Curry had 33 points and nine assists last night as No. 21 Davidson beat James Madison, 99-64, in Norman, Okla., in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Davidson's win set up a showdown of preseason all-Americans, as the Wildcats (2-0) advanced to play Oklahoma, led by sophomore Blake Griffin.
Curry switched from shooting guard to point guard for his junior season, but so far it hasn't affected his scoring. It was the 16th time in his career he's scored 30 or more points in a game.
Curry was 14 of 19 from the field -- 4 of 6 from three-point range -- and had four steals and four turnovers.
James Madison (0-1) played its first game under Coach Matt Brady.
· CONNECTICUT 99, HARTFORD 56: Craig Austrie and freshman Kemba Walker scored 21 points each and the No. 2 Huskies ran away from the Hawks in Hartford for Connecticut's 63rd consecutive win against an in-state opponent.
Walker, who started in place of injured A.J. Price, had five rebounds, while Jerome Dyson added 18 points and Jeff Adrien had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Huskies (2-0).
Morgan Sabia, who fouled out with seven minutes left, had 15 points for Hartford (0-2).
· PITTSBURGH 82, MIAMI (OHIO) 53: Jermaine Dixon, a 6-foot-3 junior college transfer and the brother of former Maryland star Juan Dixon, hit two three-pointers while scoring nine points during the No. 6 Panthers' 16-2 run to start the second half, and host Pittsburgh went on to defeat the RedHawks.
Levance Fields had 12 points and a career-high 12 assists and Sam Young and Dixon scored 14 points each for Pittsburgh (2-0).
