Stephen Curry had 33 points and nine assists last night as No. 21 Davidson beat James Madison, 99-64, in Norman, Okla., in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Davidson's win set up a showdown of preseason all-Americans, as the Wildcats (2-0) advanced to play Oklahoma, led by sophomore Blake Griffin.
Curry switched from shooting guard to point guard for his junior season, but so far it hasn't affected his scoring. It was the 16th time in his career he's scored 30 or more points in a game.
Curry was 14 of 19 from the field -- 4 of 6 from three-point range -- and had four steals and four turnovers.
James Madison (0-1) played its first game under Coach Matt Brady.
· CONNECTICUT 99, HARTFORD 56: Craig Austrie and freshman Kemba Walker scored 21 points each and the No. 2 Huskies ran away from the Hawks in Hartford for Connecticut's 63rd consecutive win against an in-state opponent.
Walker, who started in place of injured A.J. Price, had five rebounds, while Jerome Dyson added 18 points and Jeff Adrien had 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Huskies (2-0).
Morgan Sabia, who fouled out with seven minutes left, had 15 points for Hartford (0-2).
· PITTSBURGH 82, MIAMI (OHIO) 53: Jermaine Dixon, a 6-foot-3 junior college transfer and the brother of former Maryland star Juan Dixon, hit two three-pointers while scoring nine points during the No. 6 Panthers' 16-2 run to start the second half, and host Pittsburgh went on to defeat the RedHawks.
Levance Fields had 12 points and a career-high 12 assists and Sam Young and Dixon scored 14 points each for Pittsburgh (2-0).
· PURDUE 87, EASTERN MICHIGAN 58: Robbie Hummel scored 18 points, and the No. 11 Boilermakers defeated the Eagles in West Lafayette, Ind., during the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
E'Twaun Moore had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and JaJuan Johnson added 11 points for Purdue (2-0).
Justin Dobbins scored 16 points and Brandon Bowdry added 15 for Eastern Michigan (1-1).
· OKLAHOMA 94, MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE 53: Blake Griffin had 20 points, 19 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the No. 12 Sooners at home in the first round of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Griffin went 8 of 9 from the field -- including five dunks -- while posting his 12th career double-double
His 19 rebounds were one better than his previous career high set three nights earlier in a win against American.
Shannon Behling had 16 points for the Delta Devils (0-3), who were playing their third game in as many states in four nights.
· MARQUETTE 106, CHICAGO STATE 87: Wesley Matthews scored 26 points and Lazar Hayward added 21 for the No. 15 Golden Eagles at home.
Matthews, who had 27 points for Marquette (2-0) in its season opener, shot 7 for 14 from the field and made all 10 of his free throws.
David Holston had 33 points for Chicago State (1-1)
· VILLANOVA 107, FORDHAM 68: In Philadelphia, Dante Cunningham scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher each scored 17 points for the No. 23 Wildcats.
Cunningham scored 19 points in the first half, nearly matching his previous best of 21, to help Villanova (2-0) pull away to its 17th straight win at home.
Brenton Butler led Fordham (0-2) with 17 points.
GW Women Roll· GEORGE WASHINGTON 77, COPPIN STATE 36: Freshman guard Kay-Kay Allums came off the bench to score 12 points and grab seven rebounds for the Colonials (2-0) at home.
· NORTH CAROLINA 102, KENNESAW STATE 68: Jessica Breland scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the fourth-ranked Tar Heels (3-0) in Chapel Hill, N.C.
· LOUISVILLE 72, AUSTIN PEAY 42: The No. 9 Cardinals (2-0) overcame 30 turnovers to win at home.
· TEXAS 78, OLD DOMINION 44: Brittainey Raven scored 20 points for the No. 14 Longhorns (3-0) at home. The No. 25 Lady Monarchs (2-1) got 16 points from Tiffany Green.
· AUBURN 95, TEMPLE 76: DeWanna Bonner scored 29 points for the No. 20 Tigers (2-0) at home.
