A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind.
Eddie Vedder and Corin Tucker: "The Golden State" Vedder teams with Sleater-Kinney's Tucker on this superbly minimalist remake of a John Doe-Kathleen Edwards duet. It's set for inclusion on Doe's new EP.
Tra La La Blip: "Icecream Truck" Outsider music is supposed to be sweet and innocent and strange (see: Johnston, Daniel). That's like a rule. And this blippy electro-pop track, assembled by the residents of an assisted-living facility in Australia, all of whom are mentally or physically disabled, is as endearingly weird as it gets.
MGMT featuring Jim Jones: "Electric Feel" (Dirty Remix) Jones adds a rap to this already-iconic MGMT track that's so restrained, we're actually not sure why he even did it.
Kanye West featuring R. Kelly: "Love Lockdown" (remix) R. Kelly wouldn't be the first guy this week to slap his own vocals over someone else's killer track in hopes that its awesomeness will rub off (see above). We're guessing this version isn't Kanye-approved.
Los Campesinos!: "You'll Need Those Fingers for Crossing" This prolific Welsh septet specializes in spunky-but-unaccountably-depressing pop. This tooth-obsessed track, from the group's second release of '08, is the year's darkest helping of twee.
