Happily in the Doghouse

56TH PL. NE, 200 block, Nov. 3. Investigating a report of two German shepherd-chow mix dogs being left outside without shelter, a Humane Society officer spoke with the owner, who agreed to provide doghouses. When the officer returned to the home Nov. 9, two insulated doghouses had been built.

Rottweiler Recovering

EADS ST. NE, 4500 block, Nov. 5. The Humane Society was called about an underweight Rottweiler. An officer found a lethargic and underweight dog and met with its owner, who said the dog had been vomiting and had had diarrhea for two days. The owner was advised to take the dog to a veterinarian immediately. Two days later, the officer called on the owner, who said the dog had parvo, a potentially fatal viral infection of the intestinal lining. The dog was treated at the veterinary hospital and is recovering.

Cat Taken Off the Streets

26TH ST. NE, 800 block, Nov. 11. A 3-year-old medium-hair cat found wandering in the 100 block of Seaton Place NW was taken to the shelter as a stray and made available for adoption.

Beagle Surrendered

SILVER SPRING, Sligo Ave., 700 block, Nov. 5. A man took a 4-month-old beagle to the league. He said that after he bought the puppy, he found he had no time to care it, and that it did not like being caged all day. The puppy was being evaluated for adoption.

Cat Has Indigestion

VARNUM PL. NE, 4500 block, Nov. 6. A couple took a 4-year-old cat to the league's medical center because it was not eating and had been vomiting for about a week. They said the cat might have ingested plastic from a juice box. X-rays showed no obstruction; the cat was sent home with medication for an upset stomach.

Cat's Legs Injured

McCOLLOUGH CT. NW, 1100 block, Nov. 8. A woman who had found her cat lying injured at the bottom of a stairway in her apartment building took it to the league's medical center. She said the cat might have sneaked out and fallen or been thrown down the stairs. The cat's hind legs were injured; surgery by a veterinary orthopedist was scheduled.

A Pregnant Spayed Cat?

HYATTSVILLE, 32nd Ave., 5800 block, Nov. 12. A woman took a 2-year-old female cat to the league's medical center because she thought it might be pregnant, even though it had been spayed by the center in August. A veterinarian determined that the cat was merely gaining weight.

Low-Cost Vaccination Clinic

A low-cost vaccination and microchip clinic will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the league's medical center. Vaccinations are $10; microchips are $30. No appointments are needed. 202-726-2556.
