Records: Patriots 13-6-2, Quakers 11-2-4.
At Stake: Second-round match at second-seeded Maryland on Tuesday night.
Outlook: Both teams surged into the postseason, with the Patriots winning seven in a row to capture the Colonial Athletic Association title and the Quakers going 4-0-1 in their past five to claim the Ivy League crown. Mason has 19 goals during its streak, including 10 in the first two CAA tournament games, but faces a Penn squad that has conceded just 11 all year and hasn't given up a goal in 320 minutes. The Quakers are coached by Rudy Fuller, an Eleanor Roosevelt High graduate who was a midfielder and then an assistant coach at Georgetown before guiding Penn for the past 11 seasons. Mason is led by senior F Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe, who has scored eight of his nine goals in the past seven matches. Pamboe (Eleanor Roosevelt) and sophomore MF Irvin Martinez (Gar-Field) have six assists apiece, and junior GK Sean Kelley has nine shutouts in 19 starts. Freshman Ryan Garcia, a central midfielder who is second on the team in goals with five, is suspended for receiving a red card in the CAA title game Sunday. Mason is making its second NCAA appearance in three years after losing at home to Bucknell in the 2006 first round, 1-0, in overtime.
