Jazzmin Walters scored 24 points to help Old Dominion beat Virginia, 78-70, last night in Norfolk in a rematch of last season's second-round NCAA tournament game.

Tiffany Green added 20 points and 12 rebounds and Jessica Canady had 16 points and 14 rebounds to help the No. 25 Lady Monarchs (3-1) win their 27th straight home game. They have the nation's second-longest streak behind Hartford's 28.

No. 16 Virginia (2-1), coming off an upset of Tennessee, pulled to 62-60 on Monica Wright's jumper with 4 minutes 35 seconds to play, but got no closer. With Old Dominion up three in the final minute, Walters made 1 of 2 free throws and a layup to secure the win.

In the tournament last season, the Lady Monarchs won on Walters's three-pointer with 4.8 seconds to play in overtime.

"Reflecting back to NCAAs, we knew what we had to do to get the job done," said Green, who recorded her 19th career double-double. "We just came back with the same amount of focus. . . . Our focus and our patience was there, and I felt like we took our time knocking down our shots."

· OKLAHOMA 70, ARIZONA STATE 57: Courtney Paris had 20 rebounds and 19 points for the 100th double-double of her career and set the school scoring record in the No. 2 Sooners' home win over the No. 18 Sun Devils in the semifinals of the Preseason NIT.

Oklahoma (3-0) will host No. 4 North Carolina tomorrow in the championship.

Dymond Simon scored 14 points for Arizona State, while Briann January and Lauren Lacey had 12 each.

The Sun Devils (2-1) held Paris without a shot or a point for the first 15:50. Still, the 6-foot-4, preseason all-American center extended her NCAA record double-double streak to 95 games.

· CALIFORNIA 66, RUTGERS 52: Alexis Gray-Lawson hustled all over the court on the way to 25 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the No. 7 Golden Bears pulled off the biggest home victory of fourth-year coach Joanne Boyle's tenure by beating the third-ranked Scarlet Knights.

Ashley Walker added 16 points and 10 rebounds as California (3-0) won its 32nd straight non-conference game in Haas Pavilion, pushing the tempo all game against sluggish Rutgers (2-1).

· TENNESSEE 66, CHATTANOOGA 63: Glory Johnson scored 19 points, Vicki Baugh made a tiebreaking free throw with 53.7 seconds remaining and the fifth-ranked Lady Vols beat the Mocs in Chattanooga to avoid a major upset.

Tennessee (2-1) trailed 61-53 with six minutes remaining after building a 10-point lead earlier in the half. Alicia Manning drilled a wide-open three-pointer to tie it at 63 with 1:22 left.

Baugh, Cait McMahan and Shekinna Stricklen each made a foul shot in the final minute for Tennessee.

· HARTFORD 53, DUKE 51: Lisa Etienne scored 15 points to help the Hawks upset the No. 6 Blue Devils in the first game of the DePaul Invitational in Chicago.

Duke (2-1) had 26 turnovers and made only 17 of 64 shots. Chante Black had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Jasmine Thomas scored 12.

"I think they underestimated us because we're Hartford," Etienne said. "I hope that people realize that they should take Hartford seriously and we got more recognition that we are a serious basketball team."

Hartford has won 25 games or more and taken the America East regular season title the past three years.

Hannah Tuomi added 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Chanel Chisholm had 12 points while Vanderbilt (4-0) forced 27 turnovers.

East Tennessee State (0-3) nearly erased a 16-point second-half deficit, making it 48-45 with 10:24 left. But Marsh made two of her five three-pointers to help Vanderbilt pull away.

· WESTERN KENTUCKY 72, GEORGE WASHINGTON 64: Kenzie Rich scored 22 points to lead the Hilltoppers (2-1) past the Colonials (2-1) in Bowling Green, Ky.
