Maryland Women vs. UCLA

Sunday, November 23, 2008

When: 2 p.m. Where: Comcast Center. Records: No. 11 Terrapins 2-1; Bruins 2-0.

NICE ADDITIONS: The Terrapins are getting good production from their new front-court tandem of freshman Lynetta Kizer (14.3 points) and junior college transfer Demauria Liles (11.3 points). The 6-foot-1 Liles has been an active rebounder, grabbing 22 in her last two games. Maryland is looking for some depth; sophomore Drey Mingo is shooting just 25 percent and is averaging two rebounds in 16 minutes per game, and freshman Yemi Oyefuwa is raw offensively.

BIG OBSTACLE: The front court faces its first big challenge in the Bruins' trio of 6-4 Chinyere Ibekwe (the younger sister of former Maryland forward Ekene Ibekwe), 6-6 Moniquee Alexander and 6-4 Christina Nzekwe. Together, Ibekwe and Alexander are shooting 70.8 percent. UCLA outrebounded Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine by an average margin of 27.5.

WELCOME HOME: Sophomore guard Doreena Campbell, a two-time All-Met at Edison, leads the Bruins in assists (five per game). She scored 15 points when the teams met last year, a 79-75 Maryland victory in which the Terrapins rallied from a 16-point second-half deficit.
