After the teams combined for three ineffective drives, Seattle started moving with a 44-yard first-down run by Maurice Morris to the Washington 16. The Seahawks couldn't advance any farther and lost 10 yards when quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was called for intentional grounding, but Olindo Mare cashed in with a 45-yard field goal. Washington responded with a more impressive drive but a less impressive result. Mixing the run and the pass, the Redskins moved 53 yards and gained three first downs, but Shaun Suisham's 43-yard field goal attempt hit the bottom of the crossbar. The defense held again, and after a late timeout, quarterback Jason Campbell converted a third and 15 with a 16-yard pass to running back Clinton Portis.
