Bank Robbed by Man Claiming to Have Bomb
A man who said he was carrying a bomb robbed a SunTrust bank at Dupont Circle during the busy lunch hour yesterday, authorities said.
The robber was described as tall, slim and gray-haired. He arrived at the bank branch, in the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW, about 1 p.m. and told a teller that the bag he was carrying had a bomb in it, said Debbie Weierman, an FBI spokeswoman.
The teller gave the man some cash, and he fled on foot, authorities said. No injuries were reported. Investigators were unsure what the man was carrying, Weierman said. He remained at large last night.

Teen Sentenced to 100 Months for 2 Holdups
A 17-year-old District youth was sentenced to 100 months in prison yesterday for his role in two armed robberies in the District this past summer.
Douglas Chambers, who was charged as an adult, pleaded guilty July 25 to two counts of armed robbery. He was sentenced yesterday by D.C. Superior Court Judge Robert I. Richter. A co-defendant, Aaron Crutchfield, 18, also pleaded guilty to two counts of armed robbery, and he was sentenced last month to 96 months in prison.
According to prosecutors, the two admitted that early June 4, Chambers robbed three men at a farmers market in the 1300 block of Fifth Street NE. Crutchfield was driving a sport-utility vehicle used in the robbery. The two drove to a Subway sandwich shop in the 500 block of Morse Street NE, and Chambers pulled a gun on a customer, forcing her to give him money and her vehicle, authorities said.
