The horrendous murder of Mike and Ginny Spevak ["Police Scrambling for Clues in Fatal Beating of Couple," Metro, Nov. 25] has deprived our community of two wonderful people who were committed to environmental consciousness long before the current awareness of the need for sustainable living. I was the architect of their home, which received an Energy Department award, certainly because of the Spevaks.
A former student reminded me that I took his class to see the Spevaks' home in the 1980s, where he met Ginny Spevak. His words are an eloquent tribute: "She was very gracious, and I knew it took a special heart and soul to build that house, which was a true reflection of themselves -- a home and a lifestyle about giving, not taking. So rare and now gone."
