DETAILS: Ogden, Utah

GETTING THERE: Delta flies nonstop from Washington Dulles, Reagan National and BWI Marshall to Salt Lake City. Southwest also flies nonstop from BWI. Sale fares from all three airports on both airlines are currently as low as $240 round trip for midweek travel through February but will probably go up after the sale ends Dec. 4; expect to pay at least $100 more for flights Friday through Sunday.

GETTING AROUND: It's best to rent a vehicle at the Salt Lake City airport. The drive to Ogden is 30 to 40 minutes. Some hotels and condo rentals in Ogden offer shuttle service to the resorts.

SKIING: At Snowbasin (888-437-5488, http://www.snowbasin.com), adult all-day lift tickets are $63. Multi-day tickets start at $159 for three out of five consecutive days. At Powder Mountain (801-745-3772, http://www.powdermountain.com), adult all-day tickets are $56; multi-day passes are $48 a day. Powder Mountain also offers one of the few opportunities in Utah for night skiing; a 3-9 p.m. night pass is $15.

WHERE TO STAY: At Powder Mountain, the Columbine Inn (801-745-1414, http://www.columbineinnutah.com) has five hotel rooms from $110 a night, as well as two condos (two and three bedrooms) for $300 and $350 a night. Snowbasin is closer to downtown Ogden, so city hotels are within easy reach. The Hampton Inn (2401 Washington Blvd., 801-394-9400, http://www.ogdensuites.hamptoninn.com) has rooms starting at $109. Rates at the Marriott Ogden (247 24th St., 801-627-1190, http://www.marriott.com) start at $79. Outside town, Lakeside Resort Properties (6486 E. Highway 39, Huntsville, Utah, 866-745-3194, http://www.lakesideresortproperties.com) offers luxury condos, with one-bedrooms from $175 a night. Condos with up to four bedrooms are available.

WHERE TO EAT: Choices abound along Historic 25th Street. Try Roosters (253 Historic 25th St., 801-627-6171, http://www.roostersbrewingco.com) for the turkey enchiladas or whitefish tacos; dinner entrees $8.95-$21.95. Nearby is Tona Sushi Bar and Grill (210 Historic 25th St., 801-622-8662, http://www.tonarestaurant.com); dinner entrees $10-$17. Up for a real culinary adventure? Head to the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville (7350 E. 200 S., 801-745-2002) and try the signature Star Burger, a double-decker topped with a split knackwurst.
