Chat Plus: Low-Key Mexico Destinations

Sunday, November 30, 2008

During our online chat (most Mondays at 2 p.m.), you ask and we answer your travel questions -- mostly. Here's one we couldn't get to last week.

Planning a spring getaway while we can still afford to and would like to try Mexico. For two 40-something couples who are done with the party scene, would you recommend Cozumel, Cancun or the Mayan Riviera?

The Mayan Riviera has beaches to die for and is still delectably low-key, with a good choice of relatively affordable hotels and resorts. Cozumel is low-key, too, with first-rate snorkeling and diving, although the cruise hordes do their best to ruin the vibe.

Cancun is party central, but don't rule it out, especially if you snag a great deal: It's the easiest of the three to get to, its beaches are better than Cozumel's. For more info: Visit Mexico, 800-446-3942,
