Jim Zorn said yesterday he is concerned about MLB London Fletcher's ability to play Sunday against the New York Giants at FedEx Field, with starting DE Andre Carter still a question as well. Fletcher and Carter both are dealing with foot injuries. Starting LT Chris Samuels was very limited in practice, but he is scheduled to play despite a lingering knee injury.

RB Clinton Portis continues to rest with knee, hip and rib injuries, but is expected to start as usual. Portis has not been practicing regularly for weeks, but is thriving despite the pain on game days. He leads the NFL in rushing.

Zorn said Fletcher still is wearing a protective boot, and he was unable to take part in any drills yesterday. Zorn said "we'll see" if Fletcher can do anything in terms of practice today, but he did not seem overly optimistic. H.B. Blades has been taking all the snaps with the first-team defense in practice.

"We're getting H.B. ready, completely," Zorn said.

Carter no longer is wearing a boot on his injured foot, but still is experiencing discomfort in his arch and is moving "very, very gingerly," according to Zorn. DTs Cornelius Griffin (shoulder) and Kedric Golston (bone spurs in ankle) did limited work with trainers as well, while DT Anthony Montgomery has recovered from his Achilles' tendon injury and is practicing fully.

ยท NO PLANS AT RB: Zorn said the team has no immediate plans to re-sign a running back after releasing Shaun Alexander on Tuesday and signing DT Ryan Boschetti to bolster an injury-plagued defensive line. That could change if the defensive line holds up well and regains its health.

Portis's health remains a concern, but reserve RB Ladell Betts is getting healthier after he was sidelined with a knee injury. Betts "is starting to get his acceleration back," Zorn said, and is making cuts more normally.

Should Zorn lose a running back or should one of them suffer a setback, he said he would look at signing a reserve, but barring that he seems okay with the way the roster is constituted right now.
