Musical Tribute to Sean Taylor

What began as a six-foot condolence card to the Washington Redskins last year from WKYS-FM radio personality EZ Street after the murder of safety Sean Taylor has exploded into an all-star tribute this year: a memorial song produced by Jamil "Face" Johnson and featuring local R&B and hip-hop stars Raheem DeVaughn, Wale, Ms. Kim (of Rare Essence) and Anwan "Big G" Glover (of "The Wire" and the Backyard Band). There's also a music video.

At 2:21 p.m. today, (a nod to Taylor's No. 21 jersey) the drive-time DJ on 93.9 FM will debut an original song recorded over the past week called "Every Given Sunday." The song, EZ Street said yesterday, honors Taylor's legacy and projects an anti-violence message.

"It's not a sad song," EZ said. "[Face] got the original fight song from the Redskins and chopped up the horns."

The music video features Redskins offensive lineman Chris Samuels, who co-hosts a Tuesday radio show with EZ on WKYS, and his longtime girlfriend Monique "Hazel" Cox, who raps on the tribute.

The video will go up on the WKYS Web site tomorrow, EZ Street said, and on his blog at http://www.ezstreetshow.com. It's unclear if the song will be broadcast at FedEx Field on Sunday, when the team plays the Giants and inducts Taylor into the Redskins Ring of Fame. "We don't know for sure," said Cox. "But as soon as we get a copy [Samuels is] going to take it to the park and see what we can do."

Phelps Brings His Girlfriend Home

Axl Rose: Not a Pepper

Soft drink maker Dr Pepper said in March it would give a free soda to everyone in the country if Guns N' Roses' notoriously delayed "Chinese Democracy" album was released this year. The album came out, but the sodamaker's coupon-offering Web site malfunctioned. And though the promotion was extended, Alan Gutman, the band's Beverly Hills attorney, demanded a full-page apology in major daily newspapers and "an appropriate payment to our clients for the unauthorized use and abuse of their publicity and intellectual property rights," according to the AP. No sum was specified.

Spanish Author Honored

Juan Marsé, whose novels describe hardships suffered in his native Catalonia after Spain's civil war, won the Cervantes Prize yesterday, the Spanish-speaking world's highest literary honor, the AP reports.

The prize, created by Spain in 1975 and carrying a 125,000-euro ($160,000) stipend, is presented each April by King Juan Carlos in Alcalá de Henares, the birthplace of "Don Quixote" author Miguel Cervantes.
