Dre Smith and Cam Long each scored 15 points, and George Mason never trailed during a 74-65 victory over Ohio yesterday at Patriot Center.
Ryan Pearson added 13 points as five players scored in double figures for the Patriots (5-1), who won their third straight game despite seeing an early 19-point lead cut to five points on four occasions in the second half.
Jerome Tillman had 22 points and 16 rebounds for Ohio (2-1), and Steven Coleman scored 14 of his 16 points inside the final 5 minutes 16 seconds, including a driving layup that pulled the Bobcats within 66-61.
But George Mason hit 9 of its last 10 free throws, with Smith making seven, to seal the win.
Smith earlier hit two three-pointers in a 14-0 run that helped the Patriots to a 30-11 lead during a first half when they shot 5 of 11 from three-point range.
· NAVY 73, RADFORD 71: Kaleo Kina scored a career-high 30 points to lift the Midshipmen to an overtime victory over the Highlanders at Alumni Hall.
Navy trailed by one point until Kina made a pair of free throws, giving the Midshipmen (5-1) a 69-68 lead with 1:07 remaining in overtime. Kina then nailed a long three-pointer to put the Midshipmen ahead by four points.
Amir Johnson responded with a three-pointer to pull Radford (2-3) within 72-71 with 13.6 seconds left. But Kina made two free throws to help Navy pull away.
Reserves Clif Colbert and Romeo Garcia scored eight points each for the Midshipmen.
Johnson scored 19 points for Radford, which led by as much as seven in the first half and held a 31-27 lead at halftime.
Martell McDuffy had 14 points and Kenny Thomas added 12 for the Highlanders.
· FAIRFIELD 82, AMERICAN 73: Jonathan Han scored 20 points to lead the Stags (3-3) to a home victory over the Eagles.
American (4-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped.
Warren Edney had 15 points for Fairfield, which won its second in a row. Herbie Allen added 13.
Garrison Carr scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half as American erased an eight-point deficit over the final 3:34 to tie the Stags 40-40 at halftime.
Brian Gilmore had 16 points and Derrick Mercer scored 10 for the Eagles.
The Stags led just 62-60 with five minutes left before going on a 14-2 run.
