To Gonzaga Coach Kelly Graves, beating No. 16 Virginia shows his team is earning some respect from the rest of women's basketball.

Heather Bowman scored 18 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 69-62 upset victory over the Cavaliers yesterday in the WBCA Classic hosted by Marquette.

"I think it shows people we definitely have a good program," Graves said.

Kelly Bowen and Janelle Bekkering added 15 points each for the Bulldogs (7-1), who won two of three games in the tournament.

Monica Wright (Forest Park) led the Cavaliers (5-2) with a game-high 26 points, and Aisha Mohammed had 16.

"I thought we were a little flat," Virginia Coach Debbie Ryan said after the loss.

· CONNECTICUT 106, OKLAHOMA 78: Renee Montgomery had a career-high 30 points and matched the Huskies record with 13 assists to help top-ranked Connecticut (5-0) rout the No. 4 visiting Sooners (4-2).

· STANFORD 83, HAWAII 54: Jillian Harmon scored 18 points in the first half, and the No. 5 Cardinal (6-1) rolled over the Rainbow Wahine (0-6) to finish 3-0 at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic in Honolulu.

· TENNESSEE 88, DEPAUL 67: Glory Johnson tied a career high with 19 points and the No. 9 Lady Vols (5-1) rolled to a victory over the Blue Demons (5-2) in Knoxville, Tenn.

Coach Pat Summitt notched career victory No. 988.

· TEXAS 88, FLORIDA ATLANTIC 38: Brittainey Raven scored 13 points to help the No. 11 Longhorns (7-0) beat the host Owls (3-3) in the championship game of the FAU Thanksgiving Classic.

· AUBURN 63, FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL 52: Alli Smalley scored 21 points to lead the No. 15 Tigers past the Golden Panthers (1-5) in Miami to win the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.

Smalley earned tournament MVP honors and DeWanna Bonner added nine points and 12 rebounds for Auburn (7-0).

· PURDUE 65, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 51: Lakisha Freeman scored 20 points and the No. 19 Boilermakers (5-1) used a late run to defeat the Lady Panthers (1-6) in the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.

· OHIO STATE 76, DAYTON 61: Jantel Lavender scored 27 points and Samantha Prahalis had 17 to help the No. 20 Buckeyes rally from a 10-point deficit in the second half to beat the visiting Flyers in the final of the Buckeye Classic.

· OLD DOMINION 97, NORFOLK STATE 54: Jessica Canady scored eight of her 24 points during a 22-3 run to start the game and the visiting No. 23 Lady Monarchs (4-2) routed the Spartans (0-4) to stretch their home winning streak to 28 games.

· IOWA STATE 87, SAN DIEGO STATE 71: Heather Ezell had 21 points and seven assists to lead the No. 25 Cyclones (5-1) to a victory over the Aztecs (4-3) at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Classic.

· NAVY 55, DELAWARE STATE 45: The Midshipmen (4-4) defeated the visiting Lady Hornets, overcoming an 11-point deficit in the first half. Angela Myers led Navy with 12 points and nine rebounds.

· AMERICAN 77, CLEVELAND STATE 59: Four Eagles scored in double figures as American shot 50 percent on three-pointers. The Vikings turned the ball over 25 times. Nicole Ryan led American with 16 points.

· IUPUI 61, HOWARD 45: Jernisha Cann scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Jaguars held the Bison to 37.8 percent shooting in the consolation game of the Robert Morris Thanksgiving tournament.
