Schools Al Thomas will have coached to Maryland state championships if Sherwood defeats Linganore in Friday's 4A final. Thomas led Seneca Valley to five titles, before winning two more at Damascus. The other coaches who have won state titles at two schools are Bob Milloy (Springbrook, Sherwood), Dave Carruthers (Linganore, Urbana), Jack Gilmore (Valley, Allegany) and Roy Lester (Paint Branch, Magruder).

Consecutive Virginia AA Division 4 championships for Amherst County if it defeats Broad Run this week. Only five other Virginia schools have done it, and Hampton (1995-98) is the only one to win more than three straight.

Times in the past 25 years that Montgomery County has not been home to a state champion -- 1990, 2001, and 2006. Sherwood is the county's last hope this season.
