Opening dates are subject to change.
DEC. 12
Azur and Asmar (PG)
The cast: Voices of Hiam Abbass, Cyril Mourali, Karim M'Riba.
The story: Two boys are raised as brothers, separated, then try to find a fabled fairy in a medieval land that their nanny told them about in this animated film.
The buzz: This high-class family film has received strong reviews on the film circuit. Not surprising considering it's directed by visionary animator Michel Ocelot ("Kirikou").
Doubt (PG-13)
The cast: Meryl Streep, Amy Adams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Viola Davis.
The story: Two nuns in the Bronx in the 1960s confront their deepest-held beliefs about the church and human nature when they disagree about the behavior of a young priest at their parish school.
The buzz: Talk about your pedigree. A blue-ribbon cast brings John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize-winning play to the screen (although purists wonder if La Streep can hold a candle to Cherry Jones's definitive portrayal of the steely Sister Aloysius).
Frost/Nixon (R)
The cast: Frank Langella, Michael Sheen.
The story: Ron Howard's adaptation of the hit play about David Frost's historic 1977 interview with former president Richard M. Nixon.
