Chat Plus: Christmas in the Outer Banks

Sunday, December 7, 2008

During our online chat (most Mondays at 2 p.m.), you ask and we answer your travel questions -- mostly. Here's one we couldn't get to last week.

We are going to the Outer Banks for the week after Christmas. I'm trying to find some things to do with my toddler, but most of the information is for summer only. Any ideas for off-season activities?

That old standby, the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. (http://www.nps.gov/wrbr), is open year-round, with films and exhibits celebrating the first flight. Also check out Roanoke Island, home of the North Carolina Maritime Museum and the Elizabeth II, a replica of a 16th-century ship (252-475-1506, http://www.roanokeisland.com). If you can tolerate a little more holiday cheer, the Outer Banks Music Showcase Christmas Show runs through Dec. 31, with singing and comedy acts (252-261-7505, http://www.outerbanksmusicshowcase.com). Details: http://www.outerbanks.org.
