MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Man Arrested in Attack on Officer

A man accused of trying to run over a Montgomery County police officer during a traffic stop Wednesday and then fleeing as the officer opened fire was arrested early yesterday near Gaithersburg, authorities said.

Officers spotted Babajide Vidal, 51, in a red Honda about 2:30 a.m. They stopped the car in the area of Goshen and Brink roads, police said.

Vidal, of the 13900 block of Lullaby Road in Germantown, refused to leave the car and appeared to be stabbing himself, police said. They shot out the windows and pulled him out. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Vidal is alleged to have tried to run down Officer Francis McDonough on September Lane in Silver Spring.
