?Warner Bros.: Time Warner's Warner Bros. Entertainment is slated to lay off 10 percent of its staff worldwide?or about 800 jobs?according to Reuters. The studio told staff via e-mail that layoffs were necessary due to the "global economic situation and current business forecasts." About 300 IT and accounting jobs will be outsourced overseas, while 300 others will be laid off and 200 open positions will not be filled, AP reported. The company warned investors that it would post a loss for 2008 last week.
?Mythic Entertainment, Tiburon: Details about EA's 10 percent company-wide layoffs are emerging: Joystiq reported that at least 21 employees were cut at Virginia-based Mythic Entertainment, the studio behind Warhammer Online; Kotaku confirmed with Mythic head Mark Jacobs. Layoffs also hit Florida-based Madden studio EA Tiburon, according to a Gamasutra source.
?Mzinga: The B2B social networking firm laid off 15 employees, or about 6.7 percent of its 225-person staff. Burlington, Mass.-based Mzinga raised a massive $32.5 million funding round last March; CEO Rick Faulk told MHT the company made the cuts so it could be cash-flow positive for 1Q09.
