Eastern Market Will Get New Management
The District government yesterday announced that it is replacing the management company that has overseen Eastern Market for the past seven years.
Eastern Market Ventures has been derided as ineffective by community leaders and vendors, particularly after a fire destroyed the market's East Hall in April 2007. The management company's contract expires Dec. 31. The District's Office of Property Management will oversee the market until it selects a new manager.
The East Hall is being rebuilt and is scheduled to reopen in summer 2009.

Crime Cameras Are Being Installed Across Trinidad
The Trinidad neighborhood will be getting almost 30 video cameras on the streets to deter crime, city officials announced yesterday.
The cameras, which will allow D.C. police to constantly monitor the area, are part of a Safe City program, which is funded by Target and Sprint Nextel. Installation will begin in May, officials said.
The first seven cameras will cost $260,000 to install; the rest will cost $500,000.
Safe City has been used in more than 20 cities to help reduce crimes such as shoplifting, theft, panhandling and assault, said Bethany Zucco, a spokeswoman for Target.
