Competency Hearing Is Set for Banita Jacks
D.C. Superior Court Judge Frederick H. Weisberg yesterday scheduled a competency hearing Jan. 23 for a Southeast Washington woman accused of killing her four daughters.
Weisberg must determine whether Banita Jacks, who has been charged with murdering her daughters, ages 5 to 16, is mentally fit to stand trial.
Jacks has been undergoing analysis at St. Elizabeths Hospital. She has said she wants to plead not guilty. Her attorneys have urged her to plead insanity.
