Chas McFarland had 20 points and 14 rebounds last night and No. 10 Wake Forest overcame a lackluster performance in an 86-79 victory over host Richmond.

The Demon Deacons (10-0) also got 21 points from Jeff Teague, including eight in a 17-6 run that allowed them to open a more comfortable 69-55 lead with 5 minutes 55 seconds remaining.

The Spiders (5-5) closed within four twice in the final two minutes, the last at 78-74 with 1:35 left, but Teague scored on a drive and Al-Farouq Aminu followed with a dunk after a turnover to make it 82-74.

Richmond's scrappy defense forced 21 turnovers, turned them into 25 points and kept it close until the closing minutes.

Aminu and L.D. Williams each added 14 points for Wake Forest, which finished with a 43-26 rebounding edge.

Kevin Anderson led Richmond with 21 points and David Gonzalvez had 18.

ยท MARQUETTE 94, W. CAROLINA 77: Lazar Hayward scored 27 points and the No. 24 Golden Eagles (9-2) rolled at home.

Jerel McNeal scored 19 and Wesley Matthews added 18 for Marquette. Brandon Giles scored 17 points for the Catamounts (5-4).

GW Women Fall to Auburn

DeWanna Bonner had 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead No. 10 Auburn to a 65-51 victory over George Washington at Smith Center.

It was Bonner's third double-double for the Tigers (11-0), who also got 14 points from Whitney Boddie.

Bonner, a 6-foot-4 senior, scored eight of Auburn's final 11 points after the Colonials (5-4) closed within three points with 4:46 left.
