Like the sound of a smorgasbord that requires less time in the kitchen? Follow the lead of Swedish Embassy employees and head to Ikea. The furniture giant stocks all the smorgasbord essentials plus Christmas specialties such as gingersnaps and glogg. Even better, a meal for eight comes in at under $60.

Here's what to buy:

Herring, $5 for three 8.5-ounce jars.

Vasterbottenost cheese, $10.99 for a pound.

Rye Crisp crackers, $2.49 for a 7.06-ounce package.

Gravad Lax, $4.99 for a seven-ounce package.

Salmon roe paste, $3.49 for a 6.7-ounce tube (squeeze a dab on hard-cooked eggs).

Frozen, peeled cooked shrimp, $9.49 for a one-pound bag (mix with mayonnaise, dill and red onion for a shrimp salad called skagen).

Swedish meatballs, $7.99 for a 2 1/2 -pound bag.

Ligonberry preserves, $2.99 for a 14-ounce jar.

Gingersnaps, $4.99 for a one-pound tin.

Glogg, $2.99 for a 750-ml bottle.
