Jeremiah Dominguez scored 25 points and Portland State upset No. 7 Gonzaga, 77-70, last night in Spokane, Wash., for the Vikings' first win over a ranked team since Portland State reinstated its basketball program for the 1996-97 season.
Portland State (9-3), which relied on a short, quick lineup, managed to out-rebound the Bulldogs 39-30. The Vikings kept the lead by hitting 12 three-pointers.
Portland State, which is 1-11 against nationally ranked teams, broke a 10-game losing streak to Gonzaga.
Gonzaga (8-3) was coming off an 88-83 overtime loss to No. 2 Connecticut in Seattle on Saturday. But the Bulldogs looked sloppy against the Vikings, committing 11 turnovers, missing layups and shooting only 42 percent.
· BUTLER 74, XAVIER 65: Matt Howard and Gordon Hayward both scored 19 points, and the Bulldogs turned back one late Musketeers rally after another to beat 14th-ranked Xavier in Cincinnati, Butler's first win over a ranked team in more than a year.
Butler (10-1) hadn't beaten a ranked team since its 62-59 victory over No. 18 Maryland in the 2007 NCAA tournament. This one came against a team that suddenly seems lost.
Xavier (9-2) was coming off an 82-64 loss to Duke on Saturday.
· TEXAS 74, WISCONSIN 69: Gary Johnson banked in a jump shot with 23.5 seconds left to help the No. 9 Longhorns to a victory over the Badgers in Madison, Wis.
A.J. Abrams scored 21 points to lead the Longhorns (10-2), who rebounded from Saturday's loss to another traditional Big Ten power, Michigan State, and won their first true road game of the season after an early schedule that included five neutral-site games.
Damion James added 18 points and 15 rebounds for Texas.
