Alaskan Pop. Grows by 1
The pregnancy that spawned so many election-season headlines has now, at last, also produced a bouncing baby Palin.
The news out of Anchorage is that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's teenage daughter, Bristol, has given birth to a son. People magazine reported yesterday that the 7-pound 4-ounce boy -- born Sunday in Palmer, Alaska -- is named Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston.
"The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited," Colleen Jones, the governor's aunt, told People.
Palin, the ex-GOP veep nominee, said during the campaign that her 18-year-old daughter was pregnant and that Levi Johnston was the father. The couple have said they plan to marry.
Cruise Wants a Full House
Tom Cruise says he wants 10 children, British tabloid the Sun reported yesterday. "I love kids. I feel really fortunate to have the teenagers and a 2 1/2 -year-old," Cruise said of the two children he adopted with then-wife Nicole Kidman and the little girl that wife Katie Holmes gave birth to in 2006. "It's a great dynamic."
Cruise, star of the new movie "Valkyrie," said he wants "to be a different dad to my kids" than his own father was to him. Cruise's father left his family when Tom was about 12.
"I want to be with my kids. . . . My family is the most important thing in my life," the actor said, noting that he is teaching his 13-year-old, Connor, to ride a motorbike.
No word on how Holmes feels about such a large brood, but Cruise, 46, joked about the couple's 16-year age gap, saying: "If I'm worried about anything, it's if she can keep up with me. I'm very active."

In an earlier posting under the title "To Set the Record Straight," Michael Lohan says the site is "NOT about Lindsay or Samantha." No response yet from Lindsay; maybe the truce is for real this time.A Purple Proposal for N.Y.C.
Sean "Diddy" Combs reportedly has offered the city of New York $1 million for charity. The catch? In return, he wants to paint Times Square's New Year's Eve ball purple -- the color on his Ciroc Vodka labels. "It's only fitting that we take over New York," Combs, who already has Ciroc billboards in Times Square, said in a statement on his Web site.
A spokesman in Mayor Michael Bloomberg's office declined to comment until seeing further details, but expressed doubt that any such plan could take shape in time. A call to Combs's publicist was not returned.
