Rob Lowery stole the ball for a dunk to tie the game with 2 minutes 9 seconds to play, and Chris Johnson followed with a three-pointer to put Dayton ahead for good in its 66-62 defeat of visiting George Mason last night.
The Patriots (8-3) were making their first trip to University of Dayton Arena since the 2006 NCAA tournament, when they beat Michigan State and North Carolina on the way to the Final Four. They led for most of the second half last night, pulling to a five-point advantage on a three-pointer by Dre Smith with 4:41 left to play, but Dayton (12-1) went on an 11-2 run to steal the win.
Smith led the Patriots with a season-high 22 points and Cam Long added 15. Smith also had a career-high seven rebounds, but Mason was outrebounded 42-29, including 18 offensive rebounds by the Flyers that led to 23 second-chance points.
It was the 27th consecutive nonconference home win for the Flyers, who have not allowed any team to shoot better than 45 percent this season. The Patriots shot 42.6 percent (23 for 54).
Dayton was led by Lowery and Marcus Johnson, who had 13 points each.

Damian Hollis and Noel Wilmore led George Washington with 14 points apiece and Travis King added 11.
Rob Diggs, the Colonials' leading scorer and rebounder, took only one shot and finished the game with no points and two rebounds. He did not play in the second half.
