Some of the other events and developments in Prince George's County last year included:

· At the end of July, a Prince George's Sheriff's Office SWAT team and county police officers stormed the home of Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo, shooting and killing his two black Labrador retrievers while searching for a drug-filled package that had been addressed to Calvo's wife and shipped through FedEx. Further investigation cleared the Calvos of all wrongdoing, and police said the couple were the unwitting victims of a suspected drug-smuggling scheme involving deliverymen.

· In June, County Executive Jack B. Johnson (D) announced that Prince George's had been awarded a AAA rating by a Wall Street bond house. The top rating allows the county to borrow money at lower interest rates.

· Also in June, a seven-member Hospital Authority was sworn in to seek a new owner for the troubled Prince George's hospital system. Elected leaders expressed hope that the authority could stabilize the system, which serves 180,000 patients a year.
