The District

Today

Onstage 'Grey Gardens' Post critic Peter Marks called Studio Theatre's staging of the Broadway musical "weird yet deeply moving." Why weird? The musical is based on a documentary -- about two women living in squalor. Oh, and those women happen to be blue bloods, cousins of Jacqueline Kennedy, in fact. You have the day off. Why not check it out before it closes Jan. 11? $49-$69. Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 7. Studio Theatre, Metheny Theatre, 1501 14th St. NW. 202-332-3300 or visit http://www.studiotheatre.org.

Tomorrow

Concert Jucifer Two people, 15 speaker cabinets. Thirty times the discordant metal? The duo of Amber Valentine and G. Edgar Livengood, who hail from Athens, Ga., obliterates your ears at the Black Cat tomorrow. With Death by Sexy and Abiku. $12. 9 p.m. Black Cat, 1811 14th St. NW. 202-667-7960.

The Scene Kids: Hip-Hop and OE Four DJs team up for a new hip-hop dance party at DC9; but to really take you back (you know, back before rappers hawked rosé and Ciroc), the bar's also serving up Olde English. Free entry before 10 p.m.; after that, cover is $5. Free Olde English till 10 p.m. DC9, 1940 Ninth St. NW; 202-483-5000.

Literature Brunch and a Poem While others close up shop for the holiday, the Creative Alliance in Baltimore hosts "First Day Poetry Bash" with Rafael Alvarez, a onetime writer for the "The Wire"; artist/writer Blaster Al Ackerman; Yao; and others. And put a checkmark next to that resolution about helping others: The proceeds benefit the alliance's arts education programs for children. $5; brunch is extra. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Creative Alliance at the Patterson, 3134 Eastern Ave., Baltimore. 410-276-1651 or http://www.creativealliance.org.

Onstage 'Peter Pan' Olney Theatre's musical production of J.M. Barrie's classic story features a young man, rather than a woman, in the role of Peter. It has been extended by a week. $25-$48; younger than 18, $21-$25. Today-Saturday at 2 p.m., also Saturday at 8. Various times through Jan. 11. Olney Theatre Center, 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney. 301-924-3400 or visit http://www.olneytheatre.org.

Saturday

Film 'Babette's Feast,' and Yours Montpelier Arts Center's dinner-and-an-art-movie series continues with the 1987 Best Foreign Film Oscar winner, a little Danish movie that tells the story of a pair of deeply pious sisters about to be treated to a vast French banquet -- even though such overindulgence is in direct conflict with their values. In keeping with the theme, French cuisine will be served (vegetarians: The center offers veggie fare, too). $20; members and seniors, $18. 6 p.m. Montpelier Arts Center, 9652 Muirkirk Rd., Laurel. Reservations recommended; call 301-377-7800.

Northern Virginia

Tomorrow

Onstage 'Next to Normal' This risky musical directed by Michael Greif ("Rent") is a tearjerker about a family whose matriarch is bipolar. The risk-taking paid off: the musical just landed on Post critic Peter Marks's 10 best of 2008 list. $25-$76. Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m. (no show tonight); Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.; various other times through Jan. 18. 1800 S. The Scene Disco Fever Surely you've got some dance moves left in you, even after last night. Disco meets techno at Jammin' Java tomorrow night, when DJs take to the turntables for a dance party, NoVa-style. $5. 10 p.m. Jammin' Java, 227 E. Maple Ave., Vienna. 703-255-1566 or visit http://www.jamminjava.com.
