The modern inaugural ball is awful for attendees, but it's no picnic for the guest of honor, either. Consider this schedule, provided by the Clinton Presidential Library, for Bill Clinton's 1997 rounds:
7:50 p.m. New England Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Unforgettable."
8:25 p.m. Midwest Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Unforgettable."
9 p.m. Pennsylvania and Ohio Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Unforgettable."
9:35 p.m. California Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Unforgettable."
10:05 p.m. Florida Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Unforgettable."
10:35 p.m. Arkansas Inaugural Ball
The president and first lady dance to "Who Are You, Again?"
No, just kidding. They danced to "Unforgettable," as they would at nine (nine!) more balls after that.
