Danielle Gant had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead No. 3 Texas A&M to a 78-59 victory over George Washington yesterday in College Station, Tex., helping the Aggies match the longest winning streak in school history.
Takia Starks added 22 points for the Aggies (12-0), and Tanisha Smith scored 16.
Starks and Smith combined to score 25 points in the decisive first half, when the Aggies opened a 40-23 lead by the break.
Erica Rivera led the Colonials (7-6) with 13 points, and Antelia Parrish had 10 rebounds.
· CONNECTICUT 76, LOUISIANA STATE 63: Renee Montgomery scored 21 points and the top-ranked Huskies beat the visiting Tigers in a matchup of teams that made the Final Four last season.
Maya Moore added 17 points and 13 rebounds for U-Conn. (13-0), and Tina Charles chipped in 16 points and six rebounds. Five Huskies scored in double figures.
Junior guard Allison Hightower led LSU with 14 points, her sixth consecutive game in double figures.
· GEORGETOWN 80, SYRACUSE 73: The Hoyas opened Big East play with a win over the visiting Orange. Shanice Fuller led the Hoyas (11-3, 1-0) with 25 points and Karee Houlette added 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Erica Morrow led the Orange (11-3, 0-1) with 29 points.
