Herndon graduate Scottie Reynolds matched his career high with 40 points and No. 18 Villanova made its last 18 free throws to beat Seton Hall, 89-85, in overtime last night.

Reynolds, who was 15 of 16 from the line, made two free throws with 21 seconds left in regulation to give the Wildcats (13-3, 1-1 Big East) a 76-73 lead.

Seton Hall's Jeremy Hazell, who scored 23 points in the game's first 24 1/2 minutes, banked in a shot from about 26 feet with 9.2 seconds left to tie it. Reynolds missed a driving shot as time expired.

Dante Cunningham gave Villanova the lead for good at 85-83 with two free throws with 58 seconds left. Reynolds, who had 40 points as a freshman against Connecticut, then sandwiched four free throws around two by Eugene Harvey of the Pirates (9-6, 0-3) for the final margin.

Cunningham had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Wildcats, who have won five of six.

· CONNECTICUT 61, WEST VIRGINIA 55: Jeff Adrien scored 13 of his 17 points in the second half and the No. 5 Huskies beat the No. 25 Mountaineers in Morgantown, W.Va.

Hasheem Thabeet added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Connecticut (13-1, 2-1 Big East). With the win, Huskies Coach Jim Calhoun moved past Lefty Driesell into seventh place in NCAA career wins with 787.

West Virginia (11-3, 1-1), making its season debut in the rankings, had its worst shooting performance from the floor at 30.3 percent. The Mountaineers managed just three field goals over the final eight minutes.

· ARKANSAS 67, TEXAS 61: Michael Washington scored 22 points, including a driving dunk with 22.5 seconds remaining, to help the Razorbacks upset another top 10 team with a victory over the No. 7 Longhorns (11-3) in Fayetteville, Ark.

A week after knocking off then-No. 4 Oklahoma, Arkansas led Texas, 62-61, and had the ball in the final minute. Their play appeared to break down, but the 6-foot-9 Washington was able to beat his man off the dribble and suddenly had a clear path to the basket. He was fouled as he dunked and made the free throw to put Arkansas (12-1) ahead by four.
