Team Holding Foes Under 100 Points

Entering last night's game against the Toronto Raptors, only one of the past nine Washington opponents had scored more than 100 points. Before that, six of the previous nine opponents went over 100. Four of them -- Chicago, Boston, Indiana and Philadelphia -- scored 109 or more.

Part of that is a product of the slower pace the team has played under interim coach Ed Tapscott, but the Wizards have also given up lower shooting percentages.

"Points can be a function of tempo sometimes," Tapscott said. "Sometimes you play a slower-paced team, less points. That may not mean that you played better defense and then you may play terrific defense and there are still a good number points just because of the tempo of the game, so we keep different stats like field goal percentage. And one we keep on the bench that I like is the number of shots taken versus shots challenged. The idea is to give up as few open looks as possible at this level because people are so talented, open looks generally mean a field goal."

Songaila Is Speechless

Forward Darius Songaila was in uniform last night but still having a hard time speaking after taking an elbow to the throat from Orlando's Dwight Howard on Tuesday night.

Songaila's teammates weren't going to let him off easily. Andray Blatche was sitting in front of Songaila's locker before last night's game when the veteran came walking by.

"You want me to move?" Blatche asked.

Songaila shook his head.

"What?" Blatche asked. "Can't hear you."
