Hall of Fame coach Pete Carril just can't stop teaching.
The 78-year-old former Princeton coach rejoined Sacramento as a consultant. Carril spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach with the Kings after retiring from his 30-year college coaching career, leaving the club in 2006 to spend more time at his home in New Jersey.
But with the Kings (8-28) mired in a miserable season under interim coach Kenny Natt, Carril accepted an offer from Geoff Petrie, the team's president of basketball operations, to return to the club as a consultant.
· KNICKS: C Eddy Curry played in his first game of the season last night against the Mavericks.
Curry missed the first 33 with a right knee injury. He played three minutes, finishing with two points and two rebounds.
· CLIPPERS: Three days after waiving Fred Jones, Los Angeles signed the free agent guard to a 10-day contract yesterday.
Jones averaged 6.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in five games with the Clippers after signing as a free agent on Dec. 28. If a player is under contract Jan. 10 other than a 10-day contract, it's guaranteed for the season.
· CELTICS: Recalled rookies J.R. Giddens and Bill Walker from their NBA Development League team.
Giddens, a 6-foot-5 guard, was selected by the Celtics from New Mexico with the 30th overall pick in the NBA draft. He played in 13 games with the NBDL's Utah Flash, averaging 17.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Walker, a 6-foot-6 forward from Kansas State, was acquired in a draft-night trade after being selected with the 47th pick by the Wizards. Walker was averaging 18.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in 15 games with Utah.
