Complaint: We see no reason why a car this small, even one with a spunky V-6, can't do better than 18 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. Is 30 mpg for something like this, at least in highway driving, asking too much?

Ride, acceleration and handling: The TT 3.2 Quattro gets excellent marks in all three categories. The car is a driver's delight.

Head-turning quotient: It looks hot and turns heads.

Body style/layout: The TT 3.2 Quattro is a compact luxury roadster with a front, transverse-mounted engine and all-wheel-drive. It has two seats, two side doors and a power, fabric convertible roof.

Engine/transmission: The 3.2-liter, 24-valve V-6 develops 250 horsepower at 6,300 revolutions per minute and 236 foot-pounds of torque at 2,500 revolutions per minute. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission that can be shifted automatically or manually.

Capacities: There are seats for two people. There's enough luggage space for two, soft-pack overnight bags. The fuel tank holds 15.9 gallons of required premium unleaded gasoline.

Mileage: Eighteen miles per gallon in the city and 24 mpg on the highway -- that's not much to write home about.

Safety: Standard equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes with antilock control, side air bags, electronic stability and traction control.

Price: The base price on the 2009 Audi TT 3.2 Quattro roadster (convertible) is $46,540. Dealer's invoice price on that model is $43,281. Price as tested is $49,840 (including $2,000 for the "baseball optic leather" package and $475 for metallic and pearl effect paints) and an $825 destination charge. Dealer's price as tested is $46,407. Prices are sourced from Audi and Edmunds.com.

Purse-strings note: It's a wonderful toy. Compare with BMW Z4, Nissan 350-Z, Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class.
