The Inauguration A Ball for the (Party) People

Along with the official balls, there's a slate of "people's" parties, for which you don't have to put on some froufrou acetate number. Among them is the Rock & Roll Hotel's People's Inauguration Ball, which is surprisingly affordable at just $10 a ticket (and you don't have to dress like you're going to the prom, unless, of course, you want to). Baltimore's Blaqstarr headlines the main room, but you can also catch a mix of locals and out-of-towners, including Mike 2600, Meistro and Stereofaith. $10. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20; DJs spin from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Rock & Roll Hotel, 1353 H St. NE. 202-388-7625 or http://www.rockandrollhoteldc.com.

Concert Ne-Yo

Why we love Ne-Yo: Yes, his female-empowerment, emo-meets-R&B new record, "Year of the Gentleman." But also: Remember when he wore a Nats hat in the video for his breakout song "Stay"? We took that as a sign that Ne-Yo loves and respects not just team sports but D.C. itself. And hopefully, Ne-Yo will show some of that love when he plays DAR next month. $64-$74. Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. DAR Constitution Hall, 18th and C streets NW. 202-397-7328.
