OAKLAND, Calif., Jan. 19 -- Injured guard Gilbert Arenas has made most of the team's trips this season, but he remained in Washington on Monday as the Wizards opened a four-game set, starting with the Golden State Warriors.

Because the trip will include four games in four cities over six days, Tapscott said the team and training staff felt Arenas would be better served by avoiding the extra travel.

Arenas also stayed in Washington when the team traveled to Berlin and Barcelona for preseason games in October.

"Instead of having him bouncing around looking for the right kind of facilities he needs to rehab, we just felt that he'd be better served staying at home where he can use our facility," Tapscott said.

Injured center Etan Thomas, who is out because of a torn ligament in his left knee, also did not make the trip. Thomas has not yet undergone surgery and will be reevaluated at some point next week after doctors determine the extent of the injury.

Guard DeShawn Stevenson, who missed his 10th straight game because of lower back pain, and center Brendan Haywood, who is recovering from surgery on his right wrist and has yet to play this season, made the trip.

Last week, Arenas said he had an offer to attend Tuesday's inauguration but turned it down because the Wizards would be traveling.

Neither Arenas nor the team has established a timetable for a possible return, though Arenas did say last week that he expected to play at some point before the end of the season as long as he is medically cleared.
