Travolta Extortion Plot
Police in the Bahamas have detained a Bahamian lawmaker and a paramedic in connection with an alleged plot to extort money from actor John Travolta.
Few details were available, but officials told the Associated Press that the lawmaker, Pleasant Bridgewater, has been held since Thursday in the case. A second suspect, ambulance driver Tarino Lightbourne, was detained yesterday.
Lightbourne was recently quoted by several tabloids -- and was interviewed Jan. 5 on "Inside Edition" -- describing his efforts to revive Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, who died Jan. 2 of a seizure at a family vacation home on Grand Bahama Island.
Putting Pen To Palin
Is Sarah Palin about to join Bob Barnett's book club? Maybe so. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Alaska governor is ready to tell her story and has enlisted the Washington uber-lawyer to help sell it.
Barnett is not an unusual choice, having brokered scores of book deals for A-list pols and journalists. Among his clients are Brian Williams, Sanjay Gupta, former president Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama.
After Palin's sudden rise to stardom as Sen. John McCain's running mate, some have mentioned her as a possible presidential contender in 2012. She has spent the past few weeks on the offensive, lashing out at the media for the way she and her family were portrayed during the campaign.
Osbourne in Rehab
Kelly Osbourne, the 24-year-old daughter of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, has entered rehab.
In a statement, her reps told People magazine that she had checked into an undisclosed center in Los Angeles for 30 days, hoping "to address some personal issues." No other details were provided.
The news comes after reports Monday that she had been arrested, then released, for allegedly slapping a gossip columnist in London last summer.
Osbourne isn't new to rehab: Nearly five years ago, as her family was rising to reality-TV fame on "The Osbournes," she checked into a treatment facility to deal with a painkiller addiction. Last August, she told People: "I'm not going to say I'm clean living, because I still drink and I've definitely had my moments."
End Notes
Engaged: "Saturday Night Live" star Fred Armisen, 42, and Elizabeth Moss, 25, of "Mad Men." Moss, up for a Screen Actors Guild Award for best actress, told USA Weekend that the engagement "happened just a few days ago. . . . It's private, so I don't want to share the details of how it happened, but I will say it was perfect." Armisen joined "SNL" in 2002 and is best known for portraying President Obama.
Spotted: Actor Benicio Del Toro (T-shirt, green trucker hat) at Oyamel on Thursday night. The "Che" star -- in town for a screening of the four-hour Steven Soderbergh epic -- sampled guacamole and chatted with chef José Andrés before leaving.
Quoted: "Slide down the banister of the solarium, go to T-ball games, have swimming parties, and play Sardines on the White House lawn. Have fun and enjoy your childhood in such a magical place to live and play." -- Excerpt from an open letter by former first kids Jenna Hager and Barbara Bush to Obama's daughters, Sasha, 7, and Malia, 10.
